ART LINKLETTER DIES AT 97 Posted May 27, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

R.I.P Art Linkletter!!

Iconic TV host Art Linkletter died on Wednesday (May 26th) at the age of 97. Art Linkletter's House Party, one of television's longest-running variety shows, debuted on radio in 1944 and was seen on CBS-TV from 1952 to 1969. Linkletter was also widely known for his TV show People Are Funny, an audience participation quiz show that began on NBC in 1954.

And who could forget Kids Say The Darndest Things??

Linkletter's life wasn't always laughable; The Associated Press noted that in 1969, his 20-year-old daughter, Diane, jumped to her death from her sixth-floor Hollywood apartment. He blamed her death on LSD use, but toxicology tests found no LSD in her body after she died. A son, Robert, died in a car accident in 1980, while another son, Jack Linkletter, was 70 when he died of lymphoma in 2007.

Got a GREAT Burger Recipe??? Posted May 22, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

the image

My favorite food is the Hamburger!

the image

I'm not sure if that comes from growing up in a middle class family where Hamburgers, Spanish Hamburgers, Sloppy-Joes, Burger/Macaroni (mom called it The Mess), etc?

the image

Or if my craving for the Ground Round developed while living just a few miles away from THE HOME OF THE HAMBURGER... SEYMOUR, WISCONSIN.

I've been kinda bored lately with the typical burger, so I'm asking you to get me your favorite burger recipe... something special that you do to make a great Hamburger... so I can share it with our fellow Laker Listeners.

You can post your recipes under comments at the bottom of this entry, or e-mail them to me - chuck.lakefield@mwcradio.com.

I'll give some of them a try on my grill... and let you know how they turn out.

Meanwhile, here is a great article ... TIPS FOR THE PERFECT BURGER ... that I found on AOL this morning:

BRETT MICHAELS BACK IN THE HOSPITAL Posted May 21, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

the image

Rocker Bret Michaels is back in the hospital after suffering a "warning stroke" just weeks after his near-fatal episode with a brain hemorrhage. On his Facebook page, Michaels' reps released the info that says he went back to the hospital after "suffering numbness on the left side of his body." Doctors later diagnosed Michaels as having suffered a Transient Ischematic Attack (TIA), otherwise known as a warning stroke. The new health woes come just days before Bret was to make an appearance at Sunday's live finale of 'Celebrity Apprentice,' where he's in one of the final two competitors vying for the show's title.

YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY!!

An Icelandic Internet company has managed to raise money from the volcanic ash cloud that has led to Europe's largest aerial shutdown since World War II. The online shop, nammi.is, is selling 5.5-ounce jars of ash from Eyjafjpoll volcano for $29.90 each. So far, 133 countries have made inquiries and almost a million visitors have gone to the website since the offer began. "The response has been enormous since we started this 10 days ago," Sofus Gustavsson said, whose company has sold the ash to 60 countries so far. (AFP)

FACEBOOK TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE! Posted May 14, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

My friend and News Director at WSAU In Wausau, Chris Conley,  has some changes to Facebook in the news today, so we thought we would post these simple "dos and don'ts" on how to protect yourself on FB until those changes go into affect.

Using a Weak Password - Avoid simple names or words you can find in a dictionary, even with numbers tacked on the end. Instead, mix upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols. A password should have at least eight characters. One good technique is to insert numbers or symbols in the middle of a word, such as this variant on the word "houses": hO27usEs!

Leaving Your Full Birth Date in Your Profile - It's an ideal target for identity thieves, who could use it to obtain more information about you and potentially gain access to your bank or credit card account. If you've already entered a birth date, go to your profile page and click on the Info tab, then on Edit Information. Under the Basic Information section, choose to show only the month and day or no birthday at all.

Overlooking Useful Privacy Controls - For almost everything in your Facebook profile, you can limit access to only your friends, friends of friends, or yourself. Restrict access to photos, birth date, religious views, and family information, among other things. You can give only certain people or groups access to items such as photos, or block particular people from seeing them. Consider leaving out contact info, such as phone number and address, since you probably don't want anyone to have access to that information anyway.

Posting Your Child's Name in a Caption - Don't use a child's name in photo tags or captions. If someone else does, delete it by clicking on Remove Tag. If your child isn't on Facebook and someone includes his or her name in a caption, ask that person to remove the name.

Mentioning That You'll Be Away From Home - That's like putting a "no one's home" sign on your door. Wait until you get home to tell everyone how awesome your vacation was and be vague about the date of any trip.

Letting Search Engines Find You - To help prevent strangers from accessing your page, go to the Search section of Facebook's privacy controls and select Only Friends for Facebook search results. Be sure the box for public search results isn't checked.

Permitting Youngsters to Use Facebook Unsupervised - Facebook limits its members to ages 13 and over, but children younger than that do use it. If you have a young child or teenager on Facebook, the best way to provide oversight is to become one of their online friends. Use your e-mail address as the contact for their account so that you receive their notifications and monitor their activities. "What they think is nothing can actually be pretty serious," says Charles Pavelites, a supervisory special agent at the Internet Crime Complaint Center. For example, a child who posts the comment "Mom will be home soon, I need to do the dishes" every day at the same time is revealing too much about the parents' regular comings and goings.
