JOHN MAYER CAN BE A GOOD GUY... REALLY! Posted February 25, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

If John Mayer wants to improve his image, this could be one way to do it. In between all of the Playboy interview controversy, Mayer is still just a singer-songwriter who happens to be on tour right now. And on Sunday (February 21st) Mayer raised the "awww" factor when he pulled an 11-year-old fan up on stage at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center.
OK! magazine reports that Mayer spotted the aspiring guitarist's sign that read, "Can I please play 'Belief' with you?" The boy, named Austin, played guitar on stage during the song, resulting in thunderous applause. At the end of the performance, Mayer said, "That's my man!" before giving the guitar to the boy.
    * The boy's mom said Mayer made her son's dream come true, adding, "John gave him the guitar after the show and we needed security to get out of the stadium. Everyone wanted a picture with him. If you get a chance watch some of the videos on You Tube, it is touching. As John said, 'the kid pulled through.' I just wanted to thank JM for pulling through for Austin."

From Dawn in Suamico this morning:

After a recent move, I made up a list of companies, agencies, and services
that needed to know my new address and phoned each one to ask for the
change to be made. Everything went smoothly until I called one of my
frequent flier accounts. After I explained to the representative what  I
wanted to do, the woman told me, "I'm sorry; we can't do that over the phone. You will have to fill out our change-of-address form." "How do I get one of those?" I asked. "We'd be happy to provide you with one," she said pleasantly. "May I have your new address so that I can mail it to you?"

Always seems like the folks that can't win a reasonable arguement have to resort to calling their opponents names... just a thought.

UW VARSITY BAND TO PLAY KIMBERLY! Posted February 17, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

Had a great chat with Gib Schoen on the show this morning.

Gib and his wife Donna lost their daughter, Sherry, and her fiance in a car accident in 1990. Since then, they have raised funds for Kimberly High School music programs, and scholarships for these kids.

Sherry and Karl were both in the UW Madison Band, so the Schoens have presented the UW band at Kimberly High School for the past 18 years... and, with help from sponsors... they are doing it again this year! Here is the information:

HOW CASH STRAPPED ARE THE RECORD COMPANIES??? Posted February 17, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

EMI (one of the FOREIGN OWNED RECORD COMPANIES TRYING TO KILL LOCAL RADIO WITH A HUGE TAX ON SONGS PLAYED ON THE RADIO) IS HURTING SO BAD... THEY WANT TO SELL OFF..... ABBEY ROAD!!

The Home of the Beatles, among other great acts (Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds) is on the block.

The studios and building, which was built as a Georgian Townhouse in 1831, are also a huge tourist draw as the video below shows.

Anybody wanna buy a slightly used HISTORIC recording studio???

A change for OSCAR! Posted February 16, 2010 by Chuck Lakefield

No one knows yet who'll win the two dozen Academy Awards that'll be handed out on March 7, so ... R.S. Owens, the company that manufactures the trophies is hedging its bets and engraving 197 nameplates, one for each potential prizewinner.

That means, for the first time ever, newly-minted Academy Award winners will get their trophies personalized on Oscar night, instead of taking home blank-based statuettes that they have to bring back to the Academy for engraving in the days after the ceremony.

According to a press release from the Academy, winners will still pick up blank Oscars at the podium, but if they bring their prizes to the Governors Ball (the Academy's official post-Oscar bash, held next door to the Kodak Theatre), they'll be able to have their pre-made nameplates attached by Academy technicians during the party.

Owens is also engraving the nearly 200 nominees' nameplates, complete with the potential winner's name, the award category, the film title, and the year. As for the 175 or so nameplates that go unused, the Academy statement says they'll be "recycled." or maybe just find their way to eBay?? (moviefone.com)
