APPLETON – Fox Valley Humane Association is playing Santa for some very special dogs. Early in December law enforcement and Clark County Humane Association removed 34 dogs as part of an animal cruelty case. Because of its long and trusted record, FVHA was called upon to assist in rescuing these animals and 11 dogs from this case are now in our care. Two of them, 4 ½ month old yellow Labrador puppies, one male and one female came to the shelter with severe health issues due to neglect.

Both of these sweet puppies suffer from serious and now crippling eye disease. Tragically, the damage this condition has inflicted was preventable, if the dogs would have received timely treatment. One pup’s condition was determined to be so severe it will permanently lose its vision and will have to undergo radical eye surgery. The second pup still has the chance to retain sight in one eye if it receives immediate medical intervention. Both dogs are relying on FVHA to give them a second chance.

Dr. Brightman, a canine eye specialist from the Animal Referral Center in Appleton, will donate his time and skill to perform these vital operations. There will be additional costs related to these surgeries and the care of these pups.

Fox Valley Humane Association’s Christmas wish is to raise the funds to pay for the costs of needed surgeries and medical care so that these deserving dogs, once recovered and healthy, have the chance to find their forever homes. Finding those forever homes is the other Christmas wish of FVHA, and although the pups’ recovery is bound to be lengthy, the shelter will be accepting applications for their adoption.
