GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A giant re-construction project is now underway on Brown County's busiest highway.
The first work on the reconstruction of Highway 41 is happing at Scheuring Road in De Pere, where two new roundabouts are being built. That means the intersection with PDQ Drive has to close and the Lawrence Drive intersection will be partially closed.
"In the end, we'll have a safer roadway that is going to operate better and we're going to have a lot of aesthetic improvements along with the safety and operational benefits," Chad DeGrave, the DOT's project manager, told FOX 11.
The DOT says it's going to do whatever it can to minimize the impact on drivers. But some drivers still aren't happy.
"That's a heck of a long-time for doing construction on a busy highway like this in Green Bay. It does need work though. The highway is pretty rough," Andy Lindeman of Green Bay told FOX 11.
The 41 project involves adding lanes, upgrading interchanges, and improving the look of a 17-mile stretch from De Pere to Suamico. It's expected to wrap up in 2017.
