PARK FALLS, Wis. (WTAQ) - The state DNR is telling people to stay away from the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage in far northern Wisconsin. Spokesman Jim Bishop said campers were injured, trees and power lines fell, and roads were closed in the state flowage between Park Falls and Mercer.

The numbers of injuries were not immediately disclosed. State and local emergency crews have been working all day to help the injured, and determine the extent of the damage and the potential clean-up.

DNR lands’ supervisor Paul Bruggink said crews were still checking camp-sites and public access points at mid-day and he asked people to stay away so the crews can do their jobs.

Bruggink also said those planning to visit the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage this weekend might consider other plans. Three public boat landings have been closed until further notice. The damage was part of a widespread series of thunderstorms last night in about the northern third of Wisconsin.
