GB Women Advance
The Green Bay Phoenix shook off a slow, turnover filled start and rolled past UW-Milwaukee 72-48 in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Womens Basketball Tournament at the Kress Events Center. GB led by just 7 at intermission as they had difficulty taking care of the ball (13 turnovers), and working against a tall 2-3 Panther zone. Rather than penetrate inside, the Phoenix shot over it, draining a Kress record 11 three point shots on the night. Kayla Tetschlag led with 16 points, Celeste Hoewisch added 15, as did freshman Sarah Eichler with a career high 15 including three, 3 point baskets. GB outscored Milwaukee 39-22 in the second half. Top seeded Green Bay (27-3) will now host the semifinals and championship game, taking on 4th seeded Cleveland State Friday night 8, right after Detroit and Butler, the 2 and 3 seeds meet. The tournament final is Sunday afternoon.

St. Norbert Skates On
The St. Norbert Green Knights hockey team defeated Adrian 4-3 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III national tournament last night at the Cornerstone Community Center. It wasn't easy against a team making its first appearance in the national field. The Bulldogs scored first midway through the first period but the Knights Cody Keefer tied it up with 2:08 left in the period. SNC came out firing in the second, getting goals from Dustin Welz and Matt Boyd in the first three minutes. 5 minutes later, Brandon Lonsley tallied to make it 4-1. Adrian scored on a power play moments later. The Knights survived a 5-3 power play with 6 minutes to go. Adrian closed to within 1 but St. Norbert's defense held up against a team that had averaged 44 shots a game. The Knights allowed only 19 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal game against Gustavos Adolphus, a 3-1 winner over St. Thomas.
