WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Tuesday President Barack Obama wanted China to take a more market-based approach to its currency.
"You saw the president mention just a few days ago that he wished and hoped that China approached their currency using a more market-based interpretation," Obama's spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters.
Gibbs was reacting to a bipartisan effort in the U.S. Senate that would slap duties on some Chinese exports to the United States if it does not realign its currency.
