MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Milwaukee man is due back in court a week from Monday for allegedly robbing 3 banks of $17,000. 35-year-old Roberto Ruiz is facing 3 state felony charges of robbing a financial institution. He appeared in a Sunday court session in which a judge set his bond at $100,000. The 3 robberies occurred since last December. Ruiz told police he robbed one of the banks last Wednesday because he didn’t want his wife to learn that he had just lost $3,000 while gambling at a casino. Tellers said they spotted Ruiz’s get-away car – and they gave police a description and his license plate number. Prosecutors said he also admitted robbing 4 other banks since last October, in which $13,000 were stolen. At his next court appearance, a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order a trial for the 3 latest hold-ups.
