DELAFIELD, Wis. (WTAQ) - The Delafield Plan Commission could decide June 10th whether to shut down a shooting range that’s being criticized for stray bullets and loud noise. The Hartland Sportsmen’s Club has been under fire after a woman who was having dinner a quarter-mile away got grazed by a stray bullet in late April.

Also, neighbors are upset about the extra noise which occurred after the city extended the club’s hours last year. The critics stated their case at a public hearing Wednesday night, claiming that at least 5 errant bullets have left the range in the past few years.

But club officials said they generally complied with their city permit, except for some minor violations. They promised to correct those violations, and take steps to make sure that an incident similar to the diner’s shooting never happens again.

The club said it made improvements in recent years to keep the noise down, and keep bullets inside the range. But a recent inspection found that the berms at the range do not meet standards set by the National Rifle Association.
