HUDSON, Wis. (WTAQ) - A western Wisconsin man has admitted injuring a dog with a soup ladle, and causing its death.

26-year-old Michael Wondra of Hudson withdrew an insanity plea Thursday. He pleaded guilty in St. Croix County Circuit Court to a felony charge of mistreating an animal while causing death. Wondra faces up to 3-and-a-half years in prison when he’s sentenced on November 11th.

The incident occurred last New Year’s Day. Authorities said a neighbor heard an animal yelping outside Wondra’s home. That neighbor found a soup ladle inserted into a 9-month-old Yellow Lab. A veterinarian said the dog’s colon was most likely perforated. The pet was later euthanized.
