Sitting a dozen players out because of injury and fear of injury, the Packers slogged their way through the final 60 minutes of the pre-season last night in Kansas City, falling to the Chiefs 17-13. Green Bay finished 2-2 in the exhibition season but head coach Mike McCarthy said there was plenty to evaluate from the game. The roster deliberations are now underway, the team must trim 22 players by Saturday afternoon to reach the regular season roster limit of 53.
College football kicks off
The College football season is underway and the St. Norbert Green Knights christen Donald J. Schneider stadium Saturday at 1:00 PM hosting 5th ranked St. Thomas. The 12th ranked Wisconsin Badgers open on the road Saturday night in Las Vegas against UNLV.
Brewers hit Philly
The Milwaukee Brewers (62-71) open a three game weekend series in Philadelphia. Chris Capuano faces Cole Hamels in the series opener at Citizens Bank Ballpark. The Phillies are 2 games behind Atlanta in the NL East and 2 games ahead of San Francisco in the wild card race.
T-Rats wrap it up at home
Quad Cities defeated the Wisconsin TimberRattlers 7-4 Thursday night. The teams meet again tonight at 6:35 PM in the final home game of the year at Fox Cities Stadium. The T-Rats will close the season on the road at Kane County this weekend.
Preps on the pitch
In High School soccer Thursday night, Appleton North made it 3 for 3 against Green Bay area schools, routing Bay Port 5-1. The Lightning have also beaten Preble and Southwest. The Trojans played to a 2-2 draw with Appleton East. Pulaski blanked Waupaca 1-0, Luxemburg-Casco beat Marinette 5-1, West De Pere shaded Seymour 1-0 and NEW Lutheran improved to 8-1 on the season with a 4-0 shutout of Wrightstown.
