COLDWATER (WTVB) - InBranchCountyhigh school sports last night, in girl’s soccer,Quincycruised to a 9-to-0 non-conference victory atAlbion. The Lady Orioles opened up the scoring off a header from Sam Norton with the assist from Katie Santi three minutes into the contest andQuincynever looked back. Santi capped the scoring on the night on a free kick 40 yards from the goal. In between, Sofia Hidalgo had 3 goals with two each for Allie Avra and Abby Parrish.
Others earning assists were Norton, Bre Brown,Jenelle Hemker,Hidalgoand Parrish. Sarah Ward recorded her 7th shutout in goal. QuincyoutshotAlbion18-to-0 and now is 9-2-and-1 on the season. The Lady Orioles return to action Monday with a conference match atClinton.
Yesterday in track, Quincy and Bronson were among eight schools that competed at the Constantine Invitational. In the boy’s meet, Bronson finished first andQuincywas second while in the girl’s meet,Quincytook third place and Bronson was fourth. In the boy’s meet, Bronson’s Chase Mohan was a double winner in the high jump and long jump while Quincy’s Joe Todak brought home two gold medals for winning the hurdle races. In the girl’s meet, Bronson’s Mariah Roberts was a double winner in the Long Jump and 300 meter hurdles.
And in boy’s golf, Coldwater finished ninth in a field of 14 teams at yesterday’s Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational at the Riverside Golf Club, where the host Spartans won the event. The Cardinals were led by Zach Glew, who shot a 78.
And Bronson took first place in the St. Joe Valley Championship meet hosted by Centreville at theSt.JoeValleycourse. Bronson’s team score was 345, nine strokes better than second place White Pigeon. Leading the Vikings to victory were Tyler Sobeski, medalist for the meet with an 81 and Robert O’Rourke with an 83. It’s the second straight league title for Bronson, which improved its season record to 15-and-4.
Today’s high school schedule will be subject to the thunderstorms in the area. In baseball, it’sQuincyat the East Jackson Wooden Bat Tournament while Bronson is at the Maple Valley Wooden Bat Invitational. In softball, Coldwater is at the Edwardsburg Invitational,Quincyis at the Centreville tournament, and Bronson is at the St. Joseph Invitational.
In track, it’s Coldwater at the Williamston Invitational whileUnion Cityis at the Mendon Invitational. And in girl’s tennis, Coldwater has the SMAC League tournament hosted by Harper Creek while Bronson is at the KVA Tournament.
