MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) A Marshfield man is under arrest, accused of plotting to kill a doctor who provides abortions.
Federal prosecutors have charged 63-year-old Ralph Lang with attempting to injure a reproductive health care provider. He was arrested Wednesday when a gun he was loading to use in the attack accidentally went off in a hotel room. The bullet went through his hotel-room door and into a hallway at a Madison-area Motel 6. No one was injured.
Madison police arrested Lang on reckless endangerment charges. They later concluded that Lang was in Madison preparing to kill an abortion-provider. Prosecutors have not said which doctor was being specifically targeted, but the attack was being planned at a Madison Planned Parenthood location. Teri Huyck, the C-E-O of Wisconsin’s Planned Parenthood, said the F-B-I and Madison Police helped her group take security precautions necessary to continue its work.
Lang is scheduled to appear in federal court in Madison next week.
