SCOTTS, MI (WKZO) -- West Michigan has lost another soldier in the fighting in Afghanistan. Army Captain Drew Russell from Scotts in Kalamazoo County was killed Saturday. He was killed with another soldier from Tennessee when his unit came under fire near Kandahar and they were caught in the blast from a rocket propelled grenade.
His body was flown into Dover AFB last night. Capt. Russell was a graduate of Vicksburg High and went into the military after graduating from WMU, where he went thru ROTC. Funeral plans have not been finalized. He is survived by his parents. Russell was 25.
