CHICAGO (1660 The Fan) – The Chicago Cubs were hoping to start off their four game set against the National League Central-leading Cincinnati Reds with a win on the road.
Unfortunately for the Cubs, though, the home team had other plans.
Cubs starter Travis Wood gave up six earned runs on nine hits in five innings of work, as the Cubs fell to the Reds 7-3.
Cincinnati's bats started getting hot in the fourth inning, as a tied game quickly turned into a blowout after the Reds scored five runs in the fourth inning, three of which were off of home runs by Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier.
Chicago's Luis Valbuena was the hitter of the game for Chicago, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo didn't have much of a game from the mound, either. Arroyo gave up three runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work while walking three.
The Cubs continue their road series against Cincinnati tomorrow in a day-night double header. Jeff Samardzija gets the start for Chicago in game one of the double header, while Brooks Raley will look for his first win of the season in the second game of the day.
Both games can be heard on 1660 The Fan, with first pitch of game one set for 1:10 p.m.
