MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A bill to let Wisconsinites get free samples of liquor at retail stores got support Wednesday at a public hearing in Madison.
Several businesses and groups testified in favor of a bill from Assembly Republican Joel Kleefisch of Oconomowoc.
It would allow stores to offer liquor samples of up to a half-ounce – and a prospective buyer could get 3 samples at any one time.
The bill is similar to a state law that’s already in place, which lets stores give out free samples of wine and beer.
Kleefisch says the measure would help retailers by exposing their customers to new products.
Opponents say it might hurt business for wholesale liquor distributors.
